spoiler-free synopsis:
a youthful prank gone wrong sends an innocent boy to prison. upon his release four years later, a plot to take revenge unfolds.

this movie was reminiscent of a late-90’s, early-2000’s “i know what you did last summer” style whodunnit.
except….we sorta know whodunnit.
it has a tinge of b-movie and while there’s no particular masterpiece in this movie, it’s an entertaining watch!
i enjoyed it throroughly.

there are some really great nods to classic horror like “carrie”, “prom night”, and “nightmare on elm st” that i LOVED.
but it mostly carries the essence of “halloween” (which is my favorite, so maybe i’m a little biased).
the score even has a chord from the john carpenter “halloween” theme.
you know the one.

my i-can-call-the-end-of-any-movie superpower activated pretty early on in the movie, but i don’t think it detracted from my enjoyment.
on the surface level, it’s a good slasher-thriller.
underneath, lies something a little more menacing.
also. rza plays the principal. 😂👍

3/5 scars.

i like long walks to the horror section of the movie store and pretending like i’m using my degree by writing these reviews.
