spoiler-free synopsis:
a group of friends rent a cabin in the woods for a vacation, but the forces of evil aren’t interested in allowing for rest or relaxation.

i. love. this. movie.
i should probably just leave it at that honestly —
because the movie speaks for itself.
it’s the perfect movie for this season.
and it’s great for everyone (people who love or hate horror).
it’s got some scare to it, but it’s mostly just good fun.

it’s got the same vibes as “scream” or a modernized “evil dead”.
it satirizes that which informed it, while also paying sincere homage.
it’s meta without being distracting.
it’s self-referential without navel-gazing.

i was shocked to recently find out that this movie got shelved for a period of time and almost never saw the light of day.
so i would like to personally thank chris hemsworth for becoming famous as thor to help renew interest in this project.

my only complaint (that isn’t really a complaint) is that i want more!
a sequel or prequel can sometimes ruin the mystique of a mythology, but i am willing to risk that.
that’s how much i love it.

if you don’t like this movie, it will personally hurt my feelings. 😂
5/5 scars.

i like long walks to the horror section of the movie store and pretending like i’m using my degree by writing these reviews.
